UFC 156: MJ's Picks & Parlays

UFC 156 comes this Super Bowl weekend and follows up a couple of great events from the last several weeks. Headlined by the Featherweight debut of Frankie Edgar in his Title tilt with Jose Aldo, UFC 156 is stacked from top to bottom with some really interesting match ups. Overeem finally makes his return and we also get to see Rashad Evans take on the ever dangerous Little Nog. Picks:

Jose Aldo vs Frankie Edgar

How will the cut go for Frankie Edgar? How will Edgar deal with the speed and striking of Jose Aldo? If Anderson Silva cringes at the thought of ever having to fight a guy like Aldo, does Edgar have a chance? A chance, yes. Do I think he beats Aldo, no. TKO stoppage in the 1st and still Featherweight Champion . . . Jose Aldo.

Alistair Overeem vs Antonio Silva

This is a very dangerous match up for Overeem in that Silva's not going to be intimidated by Overeems size and he can match his power all day. The difference maker in this fight is the level of striking and accuracy that Overeem should bring to the cage. Silva could always catch Alistair, but Overeem should win convincingly. I wouldn't be surprised if he takes it to the body of Bigfoot. Overeem by TKO in the 2nd.

Rashad Evans vs Little Nog

With all due respect to Nogueira and everything he's accomplished in his career, Rashad is just a step above in just about every aspect of the game. He's stronger and faster and can both out wrestle and out strike the long time Brazilian standout. I think Rashad takes it to Nog and after breaking him down up against the cage finishes him by TKO.

Jon Fitch vs Demian Maia

If Jon Fitch 2.0 shows up and puts on another performance like he did in his last outing, hell just may freeze over. Even if 2.0 doesn't show up, Fitch grinds this one out and wins via Unanimous Decision.

Tyron Woodley vs Jay Hieron

Jay Hieron is a consummate professional, a student of the game and has paid his dues to earn the respect of fighters and fans across the world. One thing that Hieron is not though, is an elite wrestler on Woodley's level. Woodley takes Jay down at will and wrestle-fucks his way to a win in his UFC debut. Woodley by Fitchesque Unanimous Decision.
