A December to ReMMAmber . . .
With Thanksgiving behind us and the end of the world nearing, MMA fans everywhere are looking for a little Holiday Cheer to lighten the mood. December looks to be one of the biggest months of the year in the world of Mixed Martial Arts and with the UFC Events alone there are some phenomenal match ups to wrap up 2012. One question still looms . . . Will the Mayan's let JDS vs Cain Velasquez 2 happen, or will it all end just a week before one of the most anticipated rematches in Heavyweight history? UFC on Fox 5 - December 8th
Far and away the best card ever to air live on free TV, Fox 5 features some of the sickest and most anticipated match ups for all of 2012. Headlined by Nate Diaz vs. Ben Henderson for the 155lb Title, this card could easily go down as one of the best ever.
Henderson vs. Diaz has fireworks written all over it. The striking and submission game of Nate Diaz versus the wrestling and athleticism of Ben Henderson. This will be a close one for sure.
Shogun vs. Gustafsson is another phenomenal bout featuring a classic old guard new guard match up. Is Gustafsson the real deal? Can Shogun get his cardio in place to make a serious push for another title shot? We'll find out!
BJ Penn vs. Rory MacDonald is the fight that probably should never have happened but will be entertaining none the less. If BJ can live up to his potential and derail the MacDonald train, people will take him seriously again as a contender. If not, retirement is the easy choice.
UFC on FX 6 - December 14th
The Finale of a show no on in the U.S. is watching, this card still packs a punch. Solid talent and some good match making have this card potentially pulling some solid numbers for FX.
George Sotiropoulos vs. Ross Pearson should be an entertaining if not lopsided affair putting the two coaches of the latest overseas Ultimate Fighter season against each other.
Hector Lombard vs. Rousimar Palhares is the true Main Event of this card in my book and one of the more interesting match ups of December. Lombard and Palhares are not the names that they should be in the U.S. and being featured on an FX card may not do them justice, but this fight has some serious consequences. If Lombard can't hold his own against Palhares, it could be back to Bellator for the much hyped Middleweight.
Ultimate Fighter 16 Finale - December 15th
Another Finale of another show no on in the U.S. is watching! Funny but sad, it's too bad that more people aren't paying attention to this season. Let's hope that Uncle Chael can resurrect this once great show!
Roy Nelson vs. Matt Mitrione isn't even fair. Mitrione is a great up and comer but let's be honest . . . Nelson destroys anyone not in the top 5. As good of a prospect as Mitrione is, this match up should never have happened.
Pat "HD" Barry vs. Shane Del Rosario should be an entertaining fight and could beat out Nelson's devastating K.O. of Mitrione for Knock Out of the Night. Guess who's getting K.O.'d?
Melvin Guillard vs. Jamie Varner rounding out the top of this card makes it a must see on its own. Jamie Varner is experiencing a resurgence in his career while Guillard is so close to reaching the top of the mountain. Can't wait for this one!
UFC 155: JDS Velasquez 2 - December 29th
Mayan Prophecy of Doom / Zombie Apocalypse not withstanding, this card is super stacked with talent and interesting match ups from top to bottom. The return of Duffee & Leben along with more must see fights than I can mention in a few lines.
JDS vs. Cain 2 will either set up JDS Cain 3 or JDS vs. Cormier. Either way, there will be fireworks on the 29th. If Cain knows what's good for him, he'll take JDS down immediately.
Phil Davis vs. Forrest Griffin is one of those fights that just kind of makes you scratch your head and say hmmm. Not sure what the point is here, but it's better than some of the alternatives that could have gone down.
Jim Miller vs. Joe Lauzon is by far the sickest fight on this card and it should be a solid back and forth battle. I'm calling it right now . . . Fight of the Night!
Watch MMA in December as if it's the last month of your life . . . It may be!
Until next time . . . Enjoy the fights!
