Bellator 79 & RFA 4: MJ's Picks & Parlays

With so many great cards coming at us at once this weekend, this edition of MJ's Picks & Parlays will combine two great cards into one set of solid parlays. Bellator's current season is rolling along nicely with Bellator 79 airing tonight on MTV2. RFA 4 has proven that it's here to stay as well and will be broadcasting live on AXS TV. Let's get this party started!

RFA 4 Picks:

Tyson Griffin VS. Effrain Escudero

While both of these guys are game opponents and have Octagon experience, Tyson Griffin comes into this battle at over a 3 to 1 favorite. This battle comes down to Griffin's ability to grind out decision wins with his wrestling while avoiding the submission game of Escudero. Effrain has struggled with lessor wrestlers in the past and I see this one going Griffins way via Unanimous Decision.

Chidi Njokuani VS. Phil Dace

This should go down as the fight of the night as both of these guys come to bang with strong stand up and a track record of success in the K.O. department. Dace owns 5 knockouts in his 8 career wins while Njokuani owns 6 out of his 8 career wins. If there was a fight on this card to stay away from, this is it. Njokuani should out edge Dace with a more technical striking background, but you never really know. If I had to pick I'd go with "Chidi Chidi Bang Bang" by 2nd round TKO.

Sergio Pettis VS. Jimmy Jones

Sergio Pettis was brimming with confidence at the weigh ins and it's obvious that being called "The Phenom" as well as being the younger brother of superstar Anthony Pettis hasn't affected him at all. If anything, it's helped him live up to his potential. Pettis faces off with Jimmy Jones in a West Coast / East Coast match up that puts two great teams in Roufusport and Xtreme Couture up against each other. I give the edge to Pettis in a 2nd round stoppage.

BFC 79 Picks:

Douglas Lima VS. Jacob Ortiz

What can I say, I'm a Douglas Lima fan. No sense in trying to hide it. While Jacob Ortiz has a very well-rounded game, I think Lima edges him out in just about every category. Ortiz has finishing ability though and the line is definitely a bit off. At an 8 to 1 spread, picking Ortiz by himself as a hedge may not be a bad idea. When it's all said and done though, Lima should take this and come away with the victory.

Ryan Ford VS. Kyle Baker

This is another match up where the line and the actual fight don't exactly coincide. Ryan Ford has been on a tear as of late with 6 wins in his last 7 fights all coming by way of K.O. or Submission. Baker has dropped 2 out of his last 3 and is looking to rebound. This is a tough fight for Baker though and I see Ford continuing his finishing streak. I'm seeing a first round RNC finish.

3 pick: Griffin, Pettis, Ford - $100 to win $136

4 pick: Griffin, Pettis, Ford, Lima - $100 to win $185

5 pick: Griffin, Pettis, Ford, Lima, Njokuani - $100 to win $365

Until next time . . . Enjoy the fights!
