UFC 146: MJ's Picks & Parlays

The big boys are going to battle this weekend and if you know what's good for you, you'll be front row and center for this one. The line up this weekend easily rivals the Strikeforce Grand Prix from a little over a year ago as the next several contenders to the title will likely emerge from this group. This card has star power written all over it as it features 4 of the top ten Heavyweights around along with 6 others that easily make the top 20 list. The combined record of these 10 Heavyweights is an astounding 156-20.

I'm predicting finishes in all 5 of these fights with the majority coming by way of K.O. or T.K.O. The only potential wins coming by way of Submission being by either Frank Mir or Stefan Struve. Either way, not one of these fights will go the distance . . . mark my words!

So, Let's get down to business!

UFC 146 Picks

Junior Dos Santos VS. Frank Mir

In all of my years covering MMA, I've never seen a more confident Frank Mir than I saw at the open workout and press conference the last couple of days. While he almost had me convinced, another viewing of Junior Dos Santos's highlight reel of K.O.'s has me turning the other way. It's hard since I'll be pulling for Mir with everything I have, but I have to go with JDS on this one. Junior by nasty K.O.

Cain Velasquez VS. Antonio Silva

Cain was clearly in no mood for press conferences, media, fans or anything of the sort the last couple of days. He's got a focus that I just would not want to be up against. Both men are coming off of losses to two of the top men in the division which makes this a pivotal match up. Silva may have lost to Cain's training partner and Strikeforce HWGP winner Daniel Cormier, but with wins over Fedor and Arlovski, he knows he belongs. I would stay away from this one regardless of the lines, but if forced to pick would have to go with the favorite Cain Velasquez.

Lavar Johnson VS. Stefan StruveĀ

This could easily be the fight of the night. Both of these guys always put on fun performances and I'm expecting nothing less in this afair. With finishes over Beltran and Barry, Lavar can catapult himself right into the title mix with a win over Struve. His cryptonite just happens to be a strength of his opponent Stefan Struve. Can Lavar avoid Struve's ground game? I think so. Lavar by crushing overhand right!

Roy Nelson VS. Dave Herman

The vibe I got off of Dave Herman over the last couple of days was that he still has not made up his mind to become a World Champion. Until that happens, he'll be a gate keeper at best. He has all the potential in the world, but no desire to be the best. If there is such a thing as a sure bet, this is it. No way Herman finishes Roy. Big Country is going to come out like he always does, looking to finish. Nelson by T.K.O.

Stipe Miocic VS. Shane Del Rosario

Both of these guys are accomplished strikers and grapplers which makes this a potential fight of the night. I've got to give the edge to Shane, but it's still a very hard fight to pick. Del Rosario will probably edge him out with a more productive and well rounded stand up game, but who knows. Since I'm guessing I've got to go with Shane Del Rosario.

3 pick: Dos Santos, Nelson, Johnson - $100 to win $260

4 pick: Dos Santos, Nelson, Johnson, Velasquez - $100 to win $350

5 pick: Dos Santos, Nelson, Johnson, Velasquez, Del Rosario - $100 to win $1000

Until Next Time . . . Enjoy the FIGHTS!
