UFC 145: MJ's Picks & Parlays

The much-anticipated match up between Jones & Evans is finally here, and it's time to just sit back and see how this one plays out. While my pick of Gustafsson over Silva last week was correct, I just couldn't get behind all of the comparisons made between him and Jon Jones. I expect this fight to again show what Jones is capable of and effectively silence anyone that thinks Gustafsson is even close to being in his league. So, without further ado . . .

MJ's Picks for UFC 145:

Jon Jones VS. Rashad Evans

I'll admit it, I've been on the Team Jones train since his lateral drop of Stephen Bonnar. With that said, I don't always love the way he carries himself. It would be nice if Rashad could humble this kid, but I just don't see how he's going to deal with Jones's reach, athleticism, creativity and finishing ability. Long story short, Jones takes this any way he likes.

Rory MacDonald VS. Che Mills

As far as I can tell, Rory just edges out Che Mills in every factor in this fight. McDonald has faced tougher competition throughout his career and may just be the next big thing. I'm going with Rory by sub.

Ben Rothwell VS. Brendan Schaub

Big Ben's had a great career, but I think it's close to coming to an end if he loses to Schaub. I'm expecting Schaub to come in hungry to finish Rothwell at all costs and I think that's just what he'll do. If Schaub doesn't catch him in the first round, I'm expecting Ben to gas and Schaub to finish him in the second by TKO.

Mark Hominick VS. Eddie Yagin

When I think of Mark Hominick, I think durability. As we saw with Paulo Thiago, flash K.O.'s happen to the best of 'em and I expect "The Machine" to bounce back in this one. This is after all the same guy that went five rounds with Jose Aldo. I've got Hominick in this one.

John Alessio VS. Mark Bocek

In my upset of the night, I'm going with "The Natural" John Alessio. He's got a lot to prove in his Octagon return and I don't think he's going to let this one slip away. It's a tough match up for him as Bocek took both Ben Henderson and Jim Miller to decisions, but I think he may just have enough to beat Bocek.

4 Pick: Jones, MacDonald, Schaub, Hominick - $100 to win $129

5 Pick: Jones, MacDonald, Schaub, Hominick, Alessio - $100 to win $900

Until next time . . .
